Global Quantum Technologies Competitiveness Index

The Project is developed

with technological support of

Deep Knowledge Group

The Quantum Technologies Global Competitiveness Index (QT-GCI) is a consortium-based global benchmarking initiative designed to assess how effectively countries and cities are building real, full-stack readiness for leadership in quantum technologies. Rather than measuring scientific prestige alone, the index evaluates the capacity to translate quantum research into scalable infrastructure, engineering capability, commercialization pathways, and sustained industrial advantage across quantum computing, communications, sensing, and applied systems. Developed by Deep Knowledge Group in partnership with Quantum Industry Analytics, QT-GCI applies a pillar-based analytical framework covering research excellence, hardware and software maturity, infrastructure, talent, capital continuity, industrial participation, and governance coordination. By benchmarking both national and metro-level ecosystems, the index distinguishes jurisdictions with isolated research strengths from those developing integrated, deployable quantum ecosystems capable of long-term economic and strategic impact.

The Global Quantum Technologies Competitiveness Index (QT-GCI) First Edition is a landmark report designed to offer a detailed and comprehensive benchmarking of national and city-level quantum technology readiness. Produced by Deep Knowledge Group in partnership with Quantum Industry Analytics (QiA), this inaugural edition aims to move beyond traditional assessments that solely focus on theoretical research or patent counts. Instead, it adopts a broader and more nuanced approach by evaluating the full spectrum of quantum competitiveness. From foundational scientific research to the engineering of deployable systems, the QT-GCI assesses the readiness of nations and hubs to transform quantum science into tangible, economic advantages. This pioneering framework provides valuable insights into quantum computing, sensing, communications, and cryptography, offering stakeholders a clear understanding of the global quantum technology landscape.

The QT-GCI stands out for its holistic methodology, which integrates seven core pillars: research excellence, hardware and engineering capability, software and algorithms, talent and human capital, capital formation and investment, industrial ecosystem and commercialization, and governance readiness. Unlike other technology competitiveness indices, which often focus on isolated indicators, the QT-GCI takes a multi-dimensional approach, considering the maturity of quantum ecosystems, the scalability of infrastructure, and the synergy between industry, academia, and government. By utilizing a robust set of 42 indicators, the Index delivers a well-rounded analysis of both the current state and future potential of quantum technology leadership across 45 countries and 25 key quantum hubs around the world.
One of the most unique aspects of the QT-GCI is its emphasis on the deployment readiness of quantum technologies, which sets it apart from conventional research-focused indices. The report highlights the crucial distinction between research excellence, measured through academic output and patents, and deployable capability, assessed through practical infrastructure readiness, systems integration, and commercial traction. This focus on the industrialization of quantum technologies is critical as it reflects the increasing importance of quantum technologies not just as a scientific frontier but as strategic economic assets with transformative potential across industries such as finance, healthcare, materials science, and national security.

The First Edition of the QT-GCI also underscores the rising global importance of quantum technologies as a foundational element of future economic and geopolitical competitiveness. With investments in quantum technologies reaching unprecedented levels, the report highlights key national quantum strategies and significant public-private collaborations. It identifies the challenges and opportunities faced by emerging quantum ecosystems and provides recommendations for fostering sustainable, growth-oriented quantum industries. For policymakers, investors, and industry leaders, the QT-GCI offers actionable insights that can help guide decisions on where to invest, where to focus R&D efforts, and how to shape regulatory frameworks that will support the responsible and rapid deployment of quantum technologies.

In conclusion, the QT-GCI First Edition is an essential resource for understanding the global race to harness the power of quantum technologies. Its systematic and data-driven approach offers a clear picture of how different regions are positioning themselves to lead in this next-generation technological revolution. By focusing on both the scientific foundations and the practical aspects of quantum deployment, it provides a comprehensive guide to navigating the complex and fast-evolving quantum technology landscape, ensuring that the world’s leading nations and hubs can thrive in the coming quantum-driven future.
